God Gets All The Glory

Prayer assumes the sovereignty of God. If God is not sovereign, we have no assurance that He is able to answer our prayers. Our prayers would become nothing more than wishes. But while God's sovereignty, along with his wisdom and love, is the foundation of our trust in Him, prayer is the expression of that trust. - Jerry Bridges

This all starts on the Sunday before I go to UAB's Callahan Eye Hospital. Jeremy, a volunteer with New Creation Ministries, called me to tell me that 4 couples came up to him after church to tell him that they wanted to help with a motel in Carrollton.

To give you a little background, we have been praying for God open up as many motel missions as possible within the Drug Triangle (Chattanooga, Birmingham, and Atlanta). We have praying for us to get into Carrollton for the better part of two years. We have actually been turned down by three other motels. Our model is to train churches to adopt a motel in their area. A person is more likely to visit a church if they know at least 7 people. If the tenants of a motel get to know at least 7 volunteers who all go to the same church, then they are more likely to visit that one church.

We were about done with all of our meetings at UAB, when I received a text from Jeremy. The text read, "Give me a call when you get a chance. I have some news." Once I got to my in-laws house, I called Jeremy back. He told me that he went by a motel to ask if we could do ministry there. He met with the owner and the son. They told him that we could set up tables to eat with the tenants. This is huge. This is our first motel in Carrollton! On top of this, they gave us a green light to put our Bibles in each room. We usually don't even ask to put Bibles in the rooms until we have built a relationship with the owners.

Sometimes God places struggles in our life to do big things. Why does he do this? It is not about me or Jeremy. We have had three other closed doors. In God's time, when I was meeting with doctors, God moved. He answered our prayers. Once the mission is started, this will give us 6 motels in total.

This is by far our biggest motel. The motel averages around 60-70 people. They have a lot of children that live there. Please be in prayer as we try to line up and train volunteers. Organize how we are going to provide food for the once a month meal. There are a few logistics, but God is bigger than logistics.
