Be Thou My Vision

Having the gold plaque in my right eye throws off the vision in that eye. It doesn't move like it should. It is off centered. What I see if a crooked picture. It reminds me of the old television commercial of V8 where they all walk on a tilt. It is also so amazing how much depth perception you lose when you are only seeing through one eye. Last night, I had to get Naomi to help me put toothpaste on my toothbrush.

This makes me think of how many people live with one foot in the world. Jesus refers to this as being lukewarm. I used to think this is was a cool thing to strive to be simply because it has the awesome name of Luke inside the word.

We struggle to live with our heart, soul, mind, and strength devoted to God, while worshipping something else. It is impossible to only worship one hour a week, but we pat ourselves on our own backs when we do this week after week. That is like taking an ibuprofen for a gun shot wound. And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve. (Luke 4:8)

In order for us to move forward in this continual battle, we must understand what worship is. John Calvin wrote, "Worship involves acknowledging God “to be, as He is, the only source of all virtue, justice, holiness, wisdom, truth, power, goodness, mercy, life, and salvation. And thus, worship is to ascribe and render to Him the glory of all that is good, to seek all things in Him alone, and in every want to have recourse to Him alone."

When we make a conscious choice to rob God of any of His glory, then we will get upset when things don't work out. The reason being is that we would have to admit that we can't do. We have a hard time admitting that we are wrong, but it is genuinely a good thing that we can't do life on our own. We need the Creator of the universe in our lives. Having this small ailment with my right eye, has caused me to evaluate how much worship I am giving to God.

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day and by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Dear God, help to me to love you more and more each day. I can't be the Godly man, the Godly dad, and the Godly husband you want me to be unless you are my vision. I want to see what you see. I want to love what you love. I want to hate what you hate. God mold me into whatever you feel will bring you glory. My Lord, and my God. I love you.
