Ordinary?!

“Forgive me for being so ordinary while claiming to know so extraordinary a God.”
― Jim Elliot

I am sure most of us have found ourselves being satisfied with where we are in a particular time or place. I know I have many times. I have found myself complacent about extending my energy when it may or may not get noticed.

God is the master Creator of all things. He intricately designed everything, even down to the smallest molecule. "He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time." (2 Timothy 1:9) God is not bound by time. God is grace, therefore His grace was in action before time was created.

God is the King of all kings, and the Lord of all lords. We have the opportunity to worship and serve the Creator. There is nothing ordinary about God.

In order to understand our proper position with God, we must understand who we are. Jonathan Edwards said, “You contribute nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.”

Paul tells us in Romans 3:10-11 "as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands, no one seeks for God."

I bring nothing to the table. Ephesians 2:1 says "We are dead in our trespasses and sin." What changed me? The grace of a holy, righteous, and extraordinary God adopted us as His child. He paid the price for me to longer being a slave to sin to being a slave to righteousness.

I deserve eternal damnation and torment. Ephesians 2:4-5 says "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved."

I am a sinner saved by grace. There will be times that I need to be reminded of the Gospel message. Understanding the extraordinary helps me begin to grasp that serving God is never ordinary.
