The King Of All Kings
So many times, we get so busy with life that we forget what is most important. We tend to push things out that go against our hectic and fruitful life. Isn't this is the American dream? We have a house, a couple of cars, vacation fund, 401K, a wife, and some kids.
A problem that can accompany this mindset is that we place God into a segment of our life. We are good with God as long as He stays in His rightful place. We don't need Him to be adventurous, and come into other areas of our life. This, my friend, is terrible theology.
God is sovereign over all things. Let's look at the following verses.
I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the Lord, who does all these things. (Isaiah 45:7)
The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he wills. (Proverbs 21:1)
In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
(Job 12:10)
Looking at the verses above, God controls everything: well being, calamity, a king's heart, life, and breath. We may not ever have the answers to all of the why's. What we do know is that everything we have was given to us by God for the purpose of fulfilling His will.
It is tempting for us to fall into the trap of measuring someone's spiritual maturity based on their earthly possessions. This type of thinking flirts with the Health and Wealth movement. God is blessing their business, family, etc. therefore, they must be a great Christian. God healed this person from cancer, therefore, they must be a good Christian. As humans we try to understand God within the framework of our created beings. We try to apply Newton's Third law for our relationship with God. "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." They are rich, therefore... They are smart, therefore...
God formed me. He gives me breath. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the sovereign King of all kings and Lord of all lords. We are all created with a purpose.
We struggle with God being in control. We want to be in control of every facet of our life. We use God as a personal assistant or a genie to help us fulfill our plan. This is unbiblical.
Stonewall Jackson was asked where he got his obvious courage. His reply was, "Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed." Whether we are in a car, plane, hospital, or in our bed God holds our riches, our life, and our breath. He holds everything in His hands. He is perfect. He is not able to make mistakes. He is the absolute almighty over every molecule, atom, speck of dust, etc. He is God. Praise the Lord that the fate of the world is not on my shoulders.
